Kidz Alive! is a children’s’ theatre group started after The Sainsbury Singers production of “Pickwick” in the autumn of 2003 by the Society’s Producer, Wendy Carne.
Eleven children took part in “Pickwick” and several children had been used in previous productions, and Wendy was keen to encourage any youngsters who were interested in the theatre, and acting and singing. Most of the children are sons and daughters of performing members of The Sainsbury Singers, but the group has grown and now has a membership of 18. Children have recently taken part in “Sweeney Todd” in 2005,”Fiddler on the Roof” in 2006 and “South Pacific in 2007. Two former members of Kidz Alive! are now members of The Sainsbury Singers and have both auditioned successfully for smaller parts in the productions.
Kidz Alive! have also taken part in The Sainsbury Singers concerts and this summer staged one of their own in Grange Church, Southcote, when parents were given the opportunity to perform with their children. The programme was varied and included songs, sketches, poems, dancing, and some children were able to show their skills playing musical instruments.
The children have just started learning songs for an adapted version of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which they hope to perform in Grange Church in July 2008.
Kidz Alive! meet, usually, once a month on a Saturday afternoon, in Grange Church Hall, Southcote, from 1.45pm – 4.30pm. The time is spent on singing, movement, and theatre workshops, with “time out” for refreshments. There is also time for games! The dates for the rest of the year are…27th October, 1st December and the Christmas Party on 22nd December. Any children who might be interested are very welcome to come along and watch or join in with the session.
Age…8 to 16 years, although younger children may join if a parent remains throughout the session.
Cost…Ł20 a year, payable in two instalments in January and September, with an additional Ł1 each time a child attends a session
